Unless you’re new to the marketplace, hopefully you should be aware of the booming success of hard seltzers. We’ve seen a huge increase in popularity and sales towards the American phenomenon that are hard seltzers.
After the launch of our testimonial video featuring Willy’s ACV, packaged in our premium 250ml slim-line can, we’ve had a large influx of enquiries looking to hop onto the hard seltzers train (which isn’t slowing down anytime soon).
We’ve noticed a range of companies in both the alcoholic and non-alcoholic sector making the hard seltzer jump with a soft and pleasant landing. Just like Brew Dog who have managed take a large bite out of the beverage market with their new hard seltzer drinks.
So what are hard seltzers? – Hard seltzers are a type of low alcoholic beverage (usually 5%) ideal for the summer season (but not limited to of course). Typically contained in aluminium cans, but also in glass bottles too, hard seltzers are usually paired with vibrant and satisfying flavour combinations from Apple & Ginger to Cactus & Lime.
You may think these sorts of drinks would be high in calories and sugar and you’d be wrong. Complementing the health-conscious drinking habits in today’s society, hard seltzers typically have less than 100 calories in a single can which is far lower than other alcoholic drinks including alcopops. This is because hard seltzers are mainly made up of carbonated water with an option of malted barley or fermented sugar helping to maintain a low-calorie content whilst maintaining excellent taste.
It doesn’t stop there though, with the drinks mainly being made up of carbonated water and fermented sugar, it means many of the hard seltzers on the market are gluten-free!
So with a low sugar and calorie content, a low alcohol percentage, and being available to customers who have a gluten allergy, it’s easy to understand why hard seltzers are so popular. But do the statistics agree?
According to research at the end of last year, hard seltzer at bars and restaurants grew by 73% between spring and autumn whilst drinkers bought more hard seltzer by volume than vodka. That doesn’t mean that hard seltzers are just a one year wonder though, in fact, the IWSR (International Wines & Spirits Record) expects the consumption of hard seltzers to triple by 2023!
However, the best is yet to come for a client (like yourself). This is because hard seltzers are cheaper to make than many other alcoholic drinks since the majority of the drink consists of carbonated water helping to keep overheads low and profit margins high.
As technology continues to improve decoration capabilities, and as new products like hard seltzers emerge, we decided to introduce cans into our product range over a year ago to facilitate packaging for new, creative and innovative ventures.
