Belu, the most ethical bottled water brand in the UK, selected Rawlings for their independence and reputation for sustainability. The challenge was to create the lightest weight bottles possible for their natural mineral water range.
With careful design, we achieved an 18% lighter bottle than the previous 750ml Belu bottle; setting an industry record, as it was 20 grams lighter than any other bottle of that size.
Available in 750ml and 330ml sizes, each bottle has an embossed 'e' for 'Ethical Glass' on the base, to indicate its contribution to lowering the industry's carbon footprint.
Belu is saving 850,000kg of glass annually – equivalent to 2.1 million wine bottles.
Carbon emissions are reduced by 11% – equivalent to 7,000 nights in an average sized UK hotel.
0.3 pence per bottle sold by Belu is donated to their charity partner Water Aid.
As part of Belu's 'Ethical Glass' vision these bottles are now available from Rawlings for other companies to use, so they too can make a positive environmental impact without the capital cost of developing their own 'ethical' bottle.
